Cyril Ivald

History: Cyril is a humanoid construct created 23 years ago by his “father”, with minor inputs by Ciri’s father. While he used to be visibly inhuman, his body has undergone numerous modifications by both him and his father and he is now virtually indistinguishable from a normal human. His headaches are caused by errors made during his initial construction process that he is still unable to fix.

Starting off as an experimental toy, he has since been promoted to lead one of their research teams due to his skills and intellect. He has served Rekenber since his creation, although he does take occasional leave to wander around Rune-Midgard. Recently he has taken to following around and bothering his false “sister”, Canciri.

He has never been part of the mage’s guild, and his membership documents and test results were forged. Having been basically raised in a lab, he has great knowledge in the fields of alchemy and mechanical engineering. Based on his skills he could have elected to be a genetic, mechanic or sorcerer without arousing much suspicion, but decided on sorcerer because he preferred their uniform.


Personality: Cyril takes on two distinct personalities depending on whether he is “at work” or “on vacation”. While “working” he is aloof, ruthless and sophisticated, but with whimsical (or outright insane) moments. His “holiday” personality is mostly lively and amicable, but on occasion and especially while introducing himself he can act extremely narcissistic and boastful. He is extremely self-aware and knows exactly how stupid it sounds, but keeps doing it anyway because he finds it funny. In both circumstances he shows very little concern regarding anyone’s well being (including his own) and would cheerfully endanger others or let them endanger themselves.

Giving him attention is the easiest way to get him to open up to you, but as much as he loves people, he can never truly trust them and thus always keeps a certain distance emotionally. The generous and sensitive side he shows to the people he likes is genuine, yet he can change his tune at remarkable speed should he consider them a threat. He is pleasant and charming despite being as utterly amoral as expected of a Rekenber executive. To those he dislikes he is mockingly dismissive, and to people that pose a threat to him or his work he would be covertly or overtly homicidal. Through it all, Cyril will always maintain a smile.

As an artificial construct Cyril was programmed to be willing-to-please, but is deeply distrustful of people due to his past experiences. The clash between his eagerness to be liked and his self-preservation instinct causes him to act rather erratically at times. Cyril does not form bonds with others at all easily, and would usually just wear whatever "face" he thinks other people want to or expect to see. He hates speaking to his own creations because he knows exactly what they are going to say and it reminds him that he himself is only reading off a program. While he hates what Rekenber did to him in the past, he does not know any other life and is rather attached to his current place in it. 

He likes men, especially those with the appearance of power, and enjoys sleeping around. However, he lacks the interest or stamina to engage in a long courtship. If he feels that someone is uninterested or difficult to woo, he would just give up and be friendly towards them (unless they show that they’re interested). He has nothing against women and is willing to have female partners, as long as he does not need to put in effort courting her. As a lover he is flighty, demanding, and has commitment issues. He prefers to have multiple casual or long-term partners at any one time.


Job: He works as the lead researcher of one of Regenschrim’s cross-departmental research teams. His area of specialization is guardian research, but he is also highly knowledgeable in the fields of applied magic, mechanical engineering and homunculus research. The way he manages to both work and travel around at the same time is a trade secret.


Hobbies: Whenever he is free, Cyril enjoys hitting bars, flirting, meeting new people and making trouble. When those options aren’t available he might read, construct mechanical devices or experiment on some poor creature instead.


Combat style: Cyril prefers to hide behind his team mates and cast spells from afar. He has a distressing tendency to try melee-ing opponents who come too close, however . . .

While he has combat experience, he isn't used to being limited by a sorcerer's skill set. To reduce suspicion he would usually just spam bolts or stick to skills he is more familiar with. He's also not too clear about this whole dueling thing.

He is skilled at both unarmed combat and swordplay, making use of the thin blade hidden within his staff. He tends to hold back when using magic, but doesn’t show the same discretion in melee fights. It is for this reason that his coworkers don’t recommend getting too close when fighting against him.

Character notes:
- he prefers buff dudes, but really isn't all that picky
- he is an excellent cook, though he doesn't particularly enjoy cooking and only does so when necessary
- his Agni has blue flames & his Aqua is a dude
- he is quite a bit heavier than someone his size and build should be
- the black fox Silo is mute and is actually a Mobile Disposal Unit crafted by Rekenber
- Raphael used to belong to Ciri. She modified his clothes and gave him an artificial tan. He can play the guitar and is a better singer than both Ciri and Cyril (combined)

- Cyril avoids singing, not so much because he is a bad singer but because his singing voice sounds vaguely synthetic (think Auto-Tune) and he prefers to keep his true nature hidden
- he quite dislikes dealing with children and avoids them whenever possible


Relationships:
- Ciri pretends to be his little sister although they lack any biological relation. He likes her quite a lot, despite her prickly attitude towards him.
- Juice confuses him. Cyril really doesn’t know what to make of the tall warlock, and is all too happy to poke him whenever he gets bored.
- Cyril is very fond of Ryoga and his girlfriend Hazuki.
- Huuxera reminds him of his sister, but is much nicer and therefore nothing like his sister.
- He is puzzled about Kutsuu while also adoring the pants off him.
